Governance is the backbone of enterprise AI: it lets agents operate more securely, predictably, and compliantly. The Gemini Enterprise Developer Experience (DevEx) program runs ongoing sprint testing of end-to-end developer workflows to find and fix friction — and this sprint focused on governance, mapping out a core end-to-end path for it on Gemini Enterprise.
The testing covers five workflows in strict dependency order:
User-journey testing surfaced real friction, and the fixes are the useful part:
The five-workflow sequence is a clean mental model for governed-agent rollout — identity, registry, gateway, policy, verify — and each step is testable before the next begins. The friction fixes are representative of what's actually hard in agent governance: default-deny that over-corrects, security defaults that silently fail open, and setup steps that error confusingly when the real cause is a missing prerequisite. That's the difference between governance documentation that works and governance that gets bypassed.
